Delivering care is a skilled and unique profession that deserves recognition, respect and celebration.  The skills and expertise that care workers deliver every day make a significant difference to the lives of the people and families they support.  Sadly, this is not always fully appreciated or understood, often being undervalued and underfunded, despite delivering against all the odds.

Care Workers go beyond giving the physical care that helps people; they build relationships to provide person-centred care, they provide companionship and psychological support, and they enable people to live their lives as fully and as purposefully as is possible.

“We want to shout out loud, that our care workers are skilled professionals, who are there day in and day out, in the snow, pouring rain and scorching sun, at night, at Christmas and during the COVID-19 lockdown and we are very PROUD of them all”, says Managing Director, Stuart Clarkson. “People go into the care profession because they care; want to look after people; and because making other people happy is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.  Testament to this, we want to share some of the many Making Moments Matter that have been going on behind the closed doors of the Homes, during this challenging lockdown period, and to share our thanks to our local communities, for their many Acts of Kindness.”

A Wishing Tree

At Cowbridge Care Home, a Wishing Tree has been created in the garden, to provide a place for both staff and residents to go for a moment of quiet reflection and to think about loved ones.  They have also provided a seating area in the garden, with lovely countryside views, for residents (and staff) to go and enjoy the view and tranquillity.

Sunshine & Games

Residents of Beech Lodge, Addison Park, Trewidden, Meadowbrook House and Trecarrel have spent time outside, enjoying the sunshine, feeding the birds, watching the fish in the pond, gardening and playing games.  Rivermead View staff and residents enjoyed a competitive Easter Egg hunt and an energetic egg and spoon race, with Easter gifts for both staff and residents beautifully wrapped by wellbeing coordinator, Shirin.

Communication with loved ones

Hendra Court were kindly donated a tablet from the Surrounded by Kindness group, which they have been using as a part of the online communications between families and their loved ones.  All our homes have been facilitating online communication with families, via WhatsApp, and the staff of Beech Lodge have supported their residents to write letters home to loved ones.  At Rivermead View, a lady had her 94^th birthday, which was celebrated inside with the staff and shared with her family through the conservatory windows. 

Acts of Kindness

Our local communities have shown many Acts of Kindness, for which we are extremely thankful, as they bring joy and smiles at a time when fear and isolation are so dominant.  Gifts of flowers, fruit, arts & crafts materials, seeds and plants, music, hampers and Easter Eggs are but a few of the very generous gifts that have been received.  The Cornwall Covid 19 Protective Shields UK Approved have, so far, donated 50 face shields, to help protect our staff!  Thank you also for the kind words of support and thanks, which mean so very much to our staff as they continue to work through the lockdown.
