Research undertaken in nursing homes shows pets may actually delay the aging process. This is achieved through increased physical exercise and socialisation and increased mental functioning attained through talking to pets and having the responsibility of caring for them.
Residents at Cornwallis Care Homes enjoy regular contact with pets, and on occasion get to meet rather more unusual pets. Alpaca’s, a tarantula and lizards were amongst the guests recently to visit Meadowbrook House and Trewidden Care Home. Many thanks to Mark’s Ark and Hendra Farm.
As well as being wonderful companions, animals also provide significant health benefits to their owners.
